LOY-002, the daily pill for senior dogs
A once-a-day flavored tablet for dogs aged 10 and over weighing at least 14 lb. Two of its three FDA sections are accepted. It is not approved, and it has no date or price.
Checked November 2, 2026 against Loyal's updates and the FDA. We look again every week.
Where it stands with the FDA
Loyal is taking LOY-002 through the FDA's conditional approval route for animal drugs, which needs three technical sections accepted before the approval itself. Loyal's own counter reads "2/3 major requirements completed" (Loyal).
- Effectiveness Feb 26, 2025 The FDA accepted that the drug can be expected to work ("reasonable expectation of effectiveness"). Loyal.
- Safety Jan 13, 2026 The FDA accepted the safety package: a study at one, three and five times the dose, and field data from over 400 dogs for up to a year. Loyal.
- Manufacturing In progress In progress. Loyal told dvm360 in January 2026 it expects this last section to be reviewed in 2027. dvm360.
- Conditional approval Waiting Can only come after manufacturing is accepted. Not granted. Loyal.
The dates have slipped before. When the effectiveness section was accepted in February 2025, Loyal said it expected manufacturing and safety to be finished by the end of 2025 (Loyal). Safety came in January 2026, and Loyal then told dvm360 it expects the final section to be reviewed in 2027 (dvm360).
What it does
Aims at the metabolic decline that comes with age: Loyal says it is meant to improve insulin sensitivity and lower insulin levels, much as eating less does in studies of dogs on restricted diets. Loyal. Loyal points to a long study of Labradors in which the dogs fed less lived almost two years longer (Loyal's brief for vets). The active ingredient itself is confidential.
Which dogs it is for
Dogs aged 10 and over weighing at least 14 lb. That is how Loyal describes it today; the final label sets the limits. A conditionally approved animal drug may only be used as its label directs, so a vet could not prescribe it to a younger or smaller dog (FDA).
Check your dog's age and weight against all three drugs.
The STAY study
STAY is the long trial that LOY-002's full approval depends on: 1,300 dogs aged 10 and over at 72 US vet clinics, half on the pill and half on a placebo, for at least 4 years. The first dog was dosed in December 2023 and enrollment closed on July 14, 2025 (Loyal). It is built to detect at least one extra year of life (Fortune). Results can't come before late 2027 at the earliest. More on the study.
Price and how you would get it
There is no price. The figure in most news stories, under $100 a month, is what Loyal's founder has been reported as aiming for (Entrepreneur). It would be a prescription from your vet once the FDA grants conditional approval. What we know about the cost.
Whether your dog should take any of these is a question for your vet, who knows its health.

Questions people ask
Is LOY-002 FDA approved?
No. As of November 2, 2026 the FDA has accepted two of the three technical sections Loyal needs for conditional approval (effectiveness and safety). The manufacturing section is still in progress, and nothing has been approved.
When will LOY-002 be available?
No date has been announced. Loyal first expected to finish its FDA sections by the end of 2025, then told dvm360 in January 2026 that it expects the last one to be reviewed in 2027. Vets could prescribe it only after conditional approval.
How much will LOY-002 cost?
No price has been announced. Loyal's founder, Celine Halioua, has been reported as aiming for under $100 a month for the average dog. That is a goal, not a price.
Can small dogs take LOY-002?
Loyal describes it for dogs aged 10 and over weighing at least 14 lb. A conditionally approved drug may only be used as its label says, so a vet could not legally prescribe it outside the limits on the final label.
How many extra years could it give a dog?
Nobody knows yet. The STAY study is built to detect at least one extra year of life, and Loyal's founder has said she hopes for about a year. The answer comes from the study, which runs at least four years.
Where can I buy LOY-002?
Nowhere. It is not approved or on sale anywhere, and anything sold online under that name is not the drug in the trials. Once approved it would be a prescription from a vet.
